How is the loan structured?
The Ministry of Health offers a conditional loan to support medical students studying at selected academic institutions abroad. The loan covers annual tuition fees from the second to the sixth year, up to a maximum of ₪360,000. Loan repayment is determined by the medical specialty and institution chosen for specialization, with possible reductions of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, as listed on the updated medical institutions directory on the Ministry’s website.
Conditional Loan Details:
From the second year onwards, participants can finance their tuition fees up to a total of ₪360,000. Each student may utilize their loan eligibility either fully, by receiving the maximum amount, or partially, based on their discretion and needs.
Upon acceptance into the program, students will be directed to the program’s financial provider to sign the loan documents. From the second year onward, the annual loan amount will be transferred to the student’s account.
It is essential that loan approval each year is contingent upon providing academic proof of successful completion and advancement to the next academic year.
Upon completion of their studies and return to Israel, and after the internship year and obtaining a medical license, the interest on the loan will be waived. The principal will be subject to repayment and/or conversion to a grant based on the specialization chosen by the student, as detailed in a forgiveness table published and periodically updated by the Ministry of Health.
